Another way to enjoy the beautiful desert surroundings? Check out the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area for dramatic river and mountain views. It’s a great spot for picnicking, fishing, swimming and boating and just five miles south of the city’s casino row. Then there are the beautiful Black Mountains, Grapevine Canyon and Spirit Mountain, great spots to see interesting rock formations and Indian petroglyphs. Fishermen can try for crappie, bluegill, trout and striper bass at both Lake Mojave and the Colorado River. And there are still more ways for visitors to amuse themselves in and out of town, with tours and rentals of everything from ATVs and Hummers to boats and Jet Skis. Beyond the gaming and recreational pursuits, Laughlin has a great range of events on offer. From gaming tournaments to extravagant special events like the Xtreme Bulls Ride Hard Tour, Laughlin River Run, Pirates of the Colorado Regatta and the spectacular Fourth of July celebration, the city’s events are eagerly anticipated for a good reason. And within just two hours driving time, visitors will find the Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, Hoover Dam and even fabulous Las Vegas. Big Bend is situated on the shores of the Colorado River below Laughlin in Nevada’s southern tip. The park offers dramatic views of the river and surrounding mountains. Popular activities are picnicking, fishing, boating, camping, jet skiing, hiking and swimming. Facilities include a new 24-unit RV campground will full utility hookups, restrooms and RV dump station. The park is located five miles south of Laughlin on the Needles Highway. Winters are very mild, with temperatures rarely below freezing.
