When it comes to incredible recreational opportunities, the sky is the limit with Cave Lake State Park! Located 15 miles southeast of Ely, this oasis is perched in the middle of the Schell Creek Ranch, adjacent to the Humboldt National Forest. At a towering 7,300 feet, the 32-acre park offers outstanding scenic views and an abundance of opportunities for nature study and photography.

Most of the amenities at Cave Lake have been updated and are brand new! Facilities include campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails and a boat launch.  Winter sports such as ice fishing, cross-country skiing and ice skating are available. The boat launch is used for outdoor ice-skating, and even snow sculpting is becoming a popular favorite! Annual events including the Fire & Ice Show and Bathtub Races have become the premier events in the area!

Hunting and fishing are popular activities as well. German brown trout are native to Cave Lake and park streams. Big game animals including elk and muledeer, and predators such as bobcat, mountain lion and coyote also reside in the region. Bring your binoculars, you may even spot hawks, eagles, vulture, pinion jay, magpie and a multitude of waterfowl and songbirds.

While Cave Lake offers a variety of well-kept campsites, they even offer yurt camping! These Mongolian style round tents include a wood lattice farm and plywood floor.

Summertime highs may range from the upper 80s, with lows in the 30s and 40s at night. Wintertime highs are often in the 30s and 40s and nights are often below zero. Extreme lows may even reach -30. Snow is common from early December through early April with several feet on the ground through peak winter months. The remainder of the year is relatively dry, with rain showers being infrequent.
