The Wilbur D. May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno houses the amazing collections of one of Nevada’s most well-known ranchers, philanthropists and businessmen. Visitors to the museum are greeted by a cascading waterfall and lush indoor garden that includes two ponds filled with koi and goldfish. Floral displays in this tropical retreat are changed seasonally to reflect different times of year.
The museum’s exhibitions showcase priceless antiques and collectibles that Wilbur D. May gathered during more than 40 trips around the world. Some of the museum’s pieces include Italian amulets that pre-date the birth of Christ, a rare collection of pottery from the T´ang Dynasty, examples of early African artwork, Egyptian scarabs, Greek icons, Eskimo scrimshaws and even an authentic shrunken head from South America. Further to its gallery collections, the Wilbur D. May Museum features recreations of areas from Mr. May’s 2,600-acre Double Diamond Ranch. Visitors are treated to replicas of his tack room, big game trophy room and living room, which offer a glimpse into his busy and full life.
The Wilbur D. May Museum is fully supported by its gift shop, which carries a fantastic selection of educational, beautiful and unique items.
